For a second straight week, poor FBS/FCS results held back the RAS college football service, as we finished Week 2 with a 9-9-1 record (minus 0.9 units).
We are now 19-15-1 (+2.5 units) on all college football plays, which includes the main service, CFB+ and free picks. As always, our results can be found on our play archive.
When looking at the full-season results to date, one thing stands out: We are 15-6 (+8.4 units) on main board sides and totals; and just 3-7 (-4.7 units) on Extra/FCS games. We’ve always demonstrated a clear edge in beating these “lesser” games—so much so that our critics have sometimes accused us of using them to inflate our record—and we’d expect to perform better on those going forward. (We’d obviously also expect to perform worse than the current 71 percent on main board sides/totals.)
On the whole, we’re pleased with the quality of plays that we’ve put out, and customer feedback has been strong in terms of being able to secure the release line consistently.
Here’s a full accounting of our Week 2 results:
What went right: The Mississippi State-Arizona game. We released both the side and total and talked about it quite a bit publicly between Michael Craig’s VSIN appearance and Tuesday’s Twitter Spaces. After an uneven day, it was nice to come away with the two wins in this one. Mississippi State kept Arizona at arm’s length for much of the game, but the under 60 was in peril in the closing minutes as the Wildcats drove inside the 10-yard line before turning it over on downs.
What went wrong: As noted above, the FBS vs FCS games didn’t treat us kindly. But the real tone-setter came in the early Duke-Northwestern game. Needing a touchdown to potentially send the game to overtime—and more importantly, to clear the over 54.5 points—the Wildcats fumbled at the goal line in an eventual 31-23 loss.
What’s next: We will release college football totals early Tuesday morning and likely a few other plays throughout the week leading into Saturday’s CFB+ release. The CFB+ service is just one play per week at the reduced cost of $10. We’ll also be giving out a CFB free play on Gill Alexander’s VSIN show (Tuesday morning) as well as on the live release show with Adam Chernoff on Saturday. Follow @RASPicks for updates.
