The RAS college football service got off to a promising start, posting a 10-6 overall record for plus 3.4 units between Weeks 0 and 1.
Plays that went out to paid subscribers finished 8-5. We also went 2-1 on free plays that were sent out via the two live release shows and in the Betting Talk discord.
All 16 released plays, including a pair of 2nd half plays, had at least 1.5 points of closing line value.
We currently have three pending side plays for Week 2, with more to come.
What went right: The Duke -7 play vs Temple stands out. Both teams entered the season with first-year coaches and this game was widely viewed as a matchup between two terrible teams. We felt pretty good about Duke, and they turned in a competent performance, winning wire to wire against an Owls team that managed just 179 yards on 58 plays while turning it over twice. In our offseason prep, this game wasn’t really on our radar. But as kickoff drew closer, our comfort level with Duke improved, and we made the decision to release it. Duke won, 30-0.
What went wrong: FBS-FCS Extra games. Of our six losses, four of them involved FCS teams, and a few of them weren’t particularly close. We released Grambling +28.5 vs Arkansas State on Saturday’s live release show, and they lost 58-3. Another play we lost—San Jose State -19 vs Portland State—made national attention, including a write-up in the Washington Post. Our track record of betting games involving FCS teams is historically strong, but this week wasn’t our best.
What’s next: We have more releases coming as early as Tuesday morning. We expect to release both college football and NFL plays. This weekend, we’ll also have two gameday releases for our CFB+ and NFL+ services. Both services are low volume (one play per week) and low cost, just $10 per play. Learn more here.
